Shawn Farrell joined Martha Moses in 2018. A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in education, Shawn brings 22 years of therapeutic wilderness programming experience. For 10 years, Shawn served as the Executive Director of a wilderness therapy program in Western North Carolina. As CEO he cultivated the mentorship and development of 140 staff team members, helping many to accomplish their dreams of graduate school, school development, and professional growth. Shawn’s experience as an educator, program director, and CEO is rooted in his passion for leading students and families on a journey toward self-awareness, growth, and educational achievement.

Through his varied roles as a high school English teacher, coach, tutor, mentor and guide Shawn thrives on facilitation and engaging directly with students and families. He guides exceptional parenting workshops, teaches family communication skills, and leads by open dialogue. Shawn’s hands-on approach helps students and their families succeed through a process of self-discovery and exploration. He encourages students to ask questions, to think deeply, and to celebrate their own unique journey. By truly listening to families and facilitating a dialogue, Shawn helps open the door to long-lasting social, academic, and family success, as well as a healthy sense of self for every student.

 

Throughout his career, Shawn has remained devoted to the unique needs of every family. His ability to connect and establish a dialogue with students and families is truly special. Shawn offers a holistic approach to educational counseling specializing in wilderness programs, the power of resilience, development of empathy in adolescents, and the role of technology in the lives of middle school students.
